    Dan M. Whitlow, DVM

OWNER of WOODWARD AVENUE ANIMAL CLINIC

I grew up on a small farm in Kentucky with dairy cattle, horses, rabbits, dogs and cats. I showed Brown Swiss dairy cows in 4-H and FFA. My interest in animals and science/medicine led me to pursue a B.S. in Animal Science at the University of Kentucky and my D.V.M. degree at Auburn University. Dr. Cotton and I have been partners since 1984. I have practiced primarily at Helton Plaza Veterinary Hospital since 1984 and I have been seeing patients at Woodward Avenue Animal Clinic as well on a routine basis since April 2019. I have three adult children and I enjoy playing guitar, piano and fishing.

  • HANNAH BARNES, DVM

    ASSOCIATE VETERINARIAN

I’m from Florence, Alabama. I have always loved animals of all kinds and spent much of my childhood fishing, catching turtles and frogs, and playing with family pets. I attended undergraduate at the University of North Alabama with plans to study marine biology. During my freshman year at UNA, I began working as a veterinary assistant under Dr. Whitlow, and quickly decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. I completed my B.S. in Biology at UNA, then attended Auburn University where I received my D.V.M.

I have 2 cats, Lou and Birdie, a dog, Rocky, as well as goldfish, a turtle, and a hermit crab. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, baking, and caring for my houseplants. I’m very excited to be back in the Shoals area and begin my veterinary career!
